Artist’s Statement My artistic career I would say officially started in my first years of college at The University of Toledo, though of course, I have been practicing art my entire life. Through said years, I have gained experience in many mediums but the one that has claimed my passion above all, is painting. Most of all, I enjoy painting portraits in various styles. I have a firm belief that every person holds a sort of beauty indistinguishable from one another which should be recognized and celebrated. I feel that in my actions of painting portraits I am closest to doing just that. In my realism portraits I aim to capture, what I best can describe as, a person's mundane loveliness. No extraordinary actions or busy backgrounds, just the splendor and richness that is the human experience and presentation. In my more imaginative pieces I emphasize and dramatize characteristics I find particularly interesting, whether it be a person's eyes, hands, or complexion. The appreciation I have for one's individuality and strangeness knows no bounds and I hope that my work is representative of that ideology. |
