Artist's Statement

I build layers of acrylic paint to create depth and interesting segments in my paintings with the idea of push-and-pull. This develops a dynamic sense of depth, movement, and space with the use of color and shape. The interwoven idea of geometric shapes and forms contend with organic paint applications creating a sense of juxtaposition. This intensifies the movement of the entire piece for the viewer to analyze and depict.

My works are created with non-traditional painting materials such as squeegees, brayers, and gel plates to create interesting marks that would not always be found with a brush. Each piece is created through multiple layers of unique mark-makings and color combinations that flow together. I develop the composition with a flow state of mind, based on prior markings and how I see fit for the next mark or color application. I have an idea of what the final piece will look like, but I also allow myself to let the artwork speak to me and adjust as I see fit along the way.

My sense of development and style within my artwork is a motivation for this show to allow a mass population of viewers to see a style of abstract art that all can enjoy. These are non-objective abstract paintings that have a vast range of color that all can relate to. My colorful vibrant paintings can easily grab travelers attention, while my more muted paintings can attract others and allow them to view up close and further understand the layer development and composition.

My artwork has a specific sense of style and the viewers will see this as they travel through the airport. Bringing color and movement to the airport with my paintings will match the vibes of the travelers who also bring a sense of color and movement traveling from all over the world!

Artist's Bio

Keith Scanlon was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He attended the University of Dayton and graduated in 2011, with a major in Art Education and concentration in painting. He then went on to obtain his Masters of Art in Art Education from The Ohio State University. He acquired a career as an art teacher and thoroughly enjoys the process of helping students gain better insight and abilities within the arts.
