Juried Exhibitions
The annual juried exhibitions are the backbone of
OAL’s artistic programming, resented annually
since 1910. These major shows are held at partnering
venues such as the Columbus Museum of Art, the Springfield
Museum of Art, the Columbus Cultural Arts Center
and the Fort Hayes Shot Tower Gallery. Art curators
and critics of national renown are invited to serves
as jurors, reviewing and selecting members’
art for inclusion in the exhibitions. Past jurors
have included Edward Hopper, Max Weber, Grant Wood,
Homer St. Gaudens, Philip Pearlstein, Robert Indiana
and David Smith. In recent years OAL has welcomed
artist Ann Hamilton, Marc Mayer, Deputy Director
of Art at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Ingrid Schaffner,
Senior Curator at the Institute of Contemporary
Art (Philadelphia), Elizabeth Thomas, Assistant
Curator at the Carnegie Museum of Art (Pittsburgh)
and Helen Molesworth, Chief Curator at the Wexner
Center for the Arts. |

Member Curated Exhibitions
The Ohio Art League presents Member Curated Exhibitions
on a monthly basis at the League’s gallery,
954 North High Street in Columbus’ Short North
Arts District. Artists and curators are invited
to submit exhibition proposals to be reviewed by
a committee of OAL members. Proposals are reviewed
twice each year and booked about 6-12 months in
advance. The scheduling is deliberately current
in order to allow for the participation by both
new and active members.
The curator’s work may include organizing
artists, the installation of the show, and writing
a curator’s statement. The League sends press
releases to over 200 Ohio media outlets, prints
invitations and labels, and hosts a reception on
the first Saturday of every month, during Columbus’
Short North Gallery Hop.
