The Columbus Art Students’ League, now the Ohio Art League, was founded in 1909 by forty artists for the purpose of "mutual and public benefit."

A number of the early members have distinguished themselves in the arts, including Alice Schille, George Bellows, Emerson Burkhardt, Roy Lichtenstein, Erwin Frye, Hoyt L. Sherman, Robert Chadeayne, and Chester R. Nicodemus.

Today, the Ohio Art League’s membership is over 600 strong and extends statewide. OAL is a non-profit organization of artists from all disciplines, curators and supporters of the arts in Ohio. The purpose of the Ohio Art League is to evolve Ohio’s visual arts community through the exposure and development of artists and to enrich the community through art.
